Retro Pool Hall

RETRO HALL TERMS OF SERVICE

Please read the following terms.

1. Government Law

This hall and all its related facilities are running under Canadian law. All activity must be in compliance with the Indian Act (1930 amendment). Officials may take action whenever deemed necessary, this specifically includes Indian Agents.

2. Regulated Entry

If an Indigenous person is issued a written notice by a court or an Indian Agent, they must be prohibited from accessing the property. Resulting bans may last up to one year from the case. Staff at Pool Hall have no authority to bypass or ignore such orders.

3. Causes of Punishment

A ban notice can be issued to any Indigenous individual, if an official decides:

  1. The individual is inordinately frequenting a pool room.
  2. The individual is seen to be passing excess time with leisure activities.
  3. The individual engages in aggressive behaviour toward themself or their family.
  4. The individual is avoiding productive tasks for the sake of amusement.

The above mentioned officials have the authority to decide the grounds of prohibition.

The Facts

This was one of the many ways the government tried to control the lives of the Indigenous population. They left many of the crucial decisions to their own officials, under their own terms leaving little to no say for the Indigenous/First Nations.

4. Punishment

The Retro Hall management team will work to enforce all regulations when given, regardless of relationship.

Failure to abide by the above regulations can result in:

  1. A fine of up to twenty-five dollars.
  2. A prison sentence of up to 30 days.

The Retro Hall management team will not object to the actions of any government official.

The Facts

Did you know? The owners of pool halls could also be penalized for ignoring the given orders. This imposed restriction on the management of their own property to align with the government agenda.

5 Application Beyond Premises

Although not enforced by Retro Hall, written bans may apply to areas besides billiards. Compliance with federal law is expected at all times regardless of relation to the activities offered at the hall.

6. Agreement to Terms

By entering the premises of Retro Hall, any user agrees to all listed terms of the establishment, as well as federal law.
